About Richard Cowdrey


Richard Cowdrey with his dog Murphy, who helped inspire his art for Bad Dog, Marley!

 

Richard Cowdrey, illustrator of Bad Dog, Marley!, will be the featured guest of the 2008 OneBook program. He has illustrated various other children's books, including Frosty the Snowman, The Sandman, and the upcoming A Very Marley Christmas. His other work includes Super Bowl art, greeting cards, and various advertising campaigns. Samples of his artwork are on display throughout the library, and he will present two public programs at the FLPL:

Thursday, October 2, 3:30 pm—Children’s program

Saturday, October 4, 12:00 pm—Adult program

Artist Bio:
Originally from Cincinnati Ohio, Richard graduated from The Columbus College of Art and Design in 1981. After briefly working at Hallmark Greeting Cards, in Kansas City Missouri, he has been a freelance illustrator working with many distinguished clients:

Abercrombie & Fitch, Bantam Books, Chase Manhattan Bank, Ducks Unlimited, Executive Gallery, Fitch International, Grosset & Dunlap, Harcourt Brace, Harper Collins, Henry Holt, Honda, Kimberley Clark, Longaberger Baskets, Macmillan McGraw Hill, Mead, National Football League, National Hockey League, Parker Brothers, Random House, Ross Labs, Scholastic, Wendy's International, Weyerhaeuser, Workman Publishing, and World Wildlife Federation

Work/Mission Statement: "Fundamentally, illustration is artwork used to clarify or illuminate an idea or concept . . . I am very thankful to be able to do the type of work I love to do. I recognize where the talent and opportunities come from and desire to honor God with my work and with my life. I care greatly about each piece of art I work on; I care ultimately about each person I work with."
