Aspiring explorers of all ages can avoid cabin fever this winter with the second annual “Get Out of Town” series at the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library. With programs every Sunday in January at 2:00 pm, the series features presentations by local residents who have traveled to interesting places outside your standard vacation spots.
Last January, the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library introduced “Get Out of Town,” and the series was a huge success, with families, students, and others interested in world cultures gathering at the library to hear first-hand accounts of exotic locations such as Vietnam and East Africa. “Get Out of Town” will return to the library in 2010, with a program every Sunday in January at 2:00 pm. Each week will feature a new speaker covering a different country or geographic region, and the presentations will include photographs, souvenirs, and anecdotes about the presenters’ travels.
Stop by the library for these free programs, and hear fascinating stories from some of the Shoals area’s most interesting world travelers. Below is a schedule of speakers and topics for the 2010 “Get Out of Town” series. For more information, call (256)764-6564, ext .28.
