Use the form above to place an online Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request, or place an ILL by visiting the library. Please read the following important information before placing an ILL.
Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a process through which library material, or a copy of the material, is made available by one library to another upon request. If the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library does not have the material that a user needs within its collection, library reference staff will attempt to borrow it from another library through the ILL system.
Anyone requesting items through ILL must have a valid and current library card, in good standing and issued by our library. If the patron has overdue items or fines, appropriate action must be taken in order to clear the record before placing a request.
Requests should be made at the Reference desk on the second floor of the library. The title and author of the item requested must be provided, plus any other information (publisher, date, etc.) available. As an additional point to be noted, some items are not available for request within lending libraries, including audio-visual materials, microfilm, study manuals, auto repair manuals, rare books, and special collection or genealogical materials.
A patron may request up to three items at any one time, at a charge of $5.00 per item to cover postage and processing costs. (If a lending library charges additional fees, the patron will be notified before the ILL request is finalized).
Because materials are coming from other libraries, an arrival date cannot be guaranteed; allow at least two weeks for the arrival of materials. The borrower will be called as soon as loans arrive or notified if a loan request is rejected by a lending library. Loan periods are set by lending libraries and are beyond the control of the FLPL Reference staff.
Items borrowed through ILL must be picked up at and returned to the Reference Desk on the second floor of the library. Failure to return ILL items to the Reference desk will result in a $1.00 fine per item.
Since items borrowed through ILL are the property of other libraries, it is imperative that they be returned on time. Thus, fines for overdue items are assessed at $0.50 per item, per day past due.
Charges for lost or damaged items will be determined by the lending library according to their current replacement costs and additional processing fees.
