Go to: Books, Files, and Microfilm | Research links | Digital Archive | Heritage Quest | Ancestry (in-library)

This is the department of the library where you can research local history and your genealogy.

Our collection contains both books and a large collection of microfilm, and features subscriptions to the Ancestry Plus and Heritage Quest databases.

Though housing a fairly extensive collection of records spanning several New England, Southern, and Mid-Western states, the department’s particular emphasis is on Lauderdale and the surrounding counties of Northwest Alabama, as well as the surrounding counties of Northeast Mississippi and Southern-Middle Tennessee.

The department also holds a collection of records pertaining to the local Lauderdale, Colbert (orig. part of Franklin) and Franklin county histories. These records include the Lauderdale County Probate Court record books on microfilm, 1820–1927, as well as local newspapers, from 1824 to this year, and cemetery surveys.

Staff and knowledgeable volunteers are ready to assist both local and out-of-state researchers. For more information, contact us at 256-764-6564, ext. 30.
