Reader's Delivery: Books by Mail @ Your Library

If you are unable to visit the library due to physical disability or illness, you may be eligible for the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library "Reader's Delivery: Books by Mail @ Your Library" service.  Both standard and large print books are available through the service as well as new arrivals, books on CD, and books on tape. Each patron will be allowed five items per checkout for a three-week checkout with one optional renewal.

In order to participate in the books by mail service, each participant must be qualified by a doctor, social worker, rehabilitation teacher, registered nurse, school superintendent, or the Department of Human Resources. If you are interested in participating in the Books by Mail service, registration forms may be obtained at the circulation desk or by calling Abby Carpenter at 256-764-6564 ext. 27 to have a form mailed to you.

The registration form requires your basic contact information along with the qualifying signature of a certifying authority (as detailed above). The second page of the registration form includes genre and individual item selection lists. Please fill out both the registration and selection information forms and mail them back to the library to be considered for the service.

Once you qualify for the service, the process is simple. You will receive your books in a mailing bag from the library, with an address-labeled card. To send the books back to the library, flip the card over to the library’s address and place it in the plastic section on the front of the bag; postage is included as part of the service, at no extra cost to you.
